Jesus Prophetically Pronounced Judgment On His Own Generation (2007) “Why would a Futurist like myself even want to bring this point up? Answer: It’s the truth that so many Futurists try to brush under the carpet when dealing with Preterism. We need to be honest about 70 A.D. fulfillment, then we can be honest about all the things that were not fulfilled in 70 A.D. Futurists need to appreciate this aspect of Preterism. Preterism basically means “in the past”. The part that Futurists disagree with is in saying that the return of Christ, the new heavens and new earth, the abomination of desolation, Daniel’s seventieth week, etc. are all in the past. But we need to concede up front the things that actually are in the past.”

Thomas Ice: Why Sacrifices in the Millennium (2007) “The presence and purpose of millennial sacrifices neither diminish the finished work of Christ, nor violates the literal interpretation of these prophetic passages. Nothing in Ezekiel 40-48 conflicts with the death of Christ or New Testament teaching at any point. The supposed contradictions between a literal understanding of Ezekiel and New Testament doctrine evaporate when examined specifically and harmonized. Although there will be millennial sacrifices, the focus of all worship will remain on the person and work of the Savior.“

Dave Bussard: Are Matthew 24 and Luke 21 the Same? “Even though Matthew 24 and Luke 21 contain strong similarities, I contend that the bulk of these two sections of scripture are different teachings given at separate times. Both passages teach of the future return of Christ, but I believe the “tribulation” described in Matt. 24:9-22 is the period of time where the abomination of desolation will stand in the holy place at the midpoint of the yet-to-happen 70th Week of Daniel. The “persecution” described in Luke 21:12-24 speaks of the historical attack on Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple in 70 A.D. Continue and see if the following evidence is enough persuade you.” (The Pre-Wrath Tribune)

Ralph H. Alexander: “Some would understand Rosh as midern Russia. Propontents of this view usually appeal to etymology based on similar sounds (to the hearing) between two words. Such etymological procedures are not linguistically sound, nor is etymology alone a sound hermeneutical basis on which to interpret a worked. The word Russia is a late eleventh century A.D. term. Therefore, the data does not seem to support an interpretation of rosh as a proper name of a geographical region or country.” (Ezekiel, The Expositers bible Commentary, 6:930 Walter C. Kaiser: “In the past the usual way that the distinction was demarcated was by designating the eternal kingdom as the kingdom of God and the earthly program as the kingdom of heaven. It is a joy to note that we are now well beyond this state in argument” (in Feinberg, ed., Continue and Discontinuip, p. 294) Harold Camping: “The Church Age Has Come to an End” “And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, He said, as for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. These temple buildings represent the churches and congregations God would build throughout the New Testament time. Those who come into this spiritual temple are gold, silver and precious stones, and wood, hay, stubble, (I Cor 3:12). That is they are both true believers and those who appear to be true believers and actually are not. Thus each congregation is an integral part of that great temple. But Jesus declares that there will be a time when there will not be left one stone upon another. That is the temple will be totally destroyed. It will no longer exist.” 1994: The Year of Christ’s Return? William T. James “We live in days such as delineated in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. The evidence is astoundingly abundant to anyone not wishing to be a foolish, deceived, brute beast but rather desiring to seek to be wise unto salvation.” (Storming Towards Armageddon, p. 45) Robert P. Lightener: “Despite a number of similarities, pretribulationsits find a definite distinction in Scripture between God’s program with Israel and His program with the Church. They also see a difference between Christ’s coming for His own and His coming with His own. The coming for His own they call the “rapture,” Christ’s coming with His own to earth is called the “Second Coming.” At least one thousand years for the earthly reign of Christ and seven years of tribulation on the earth come between the Rapture and the Second Coming in this view.” (The Last Days Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding the Different Views of Prophecy, Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson, 1990, p. 59) Charles Mackay, 1841: Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds: “An epidemic terror of the end of the world has several times spread over the nations. The most remarkable was that which seized Christendom about the middle of the tenth century… The delusion appears to have been discouraged by the Church. But it nevertheless spread rapidly among the people. The scene of the last judgment was expected to be a t Jerusalem. IN the year 999, the number of pilgrims proceeding eastward, to await the coming of the Lord in that city, was so great that they were compared to a desolating army. Most of them sold their goods and possessions before they quitted Europe, and lived upon the proceeds in the Holy Land. Buildings of every sort were suffered to fall into ruins. It was thought useless to repair them, when the end of the world was so near. Many noble edifices were deliberately pulled down. Even churches, usually so well maintained, shared the general neglect. Knights, citizens, and serfs, traveled eastwards in company, taking with them their wives and children, singing psalms as they went, and looking with fearful eyes upon the sky, which they expected each minute to open, to let the Son of God descend in his glory. During the thousandth year the number of pilgrims increased. Most of them were smitten with terror as with a plague. Every phenomenon of nature filled them with alarm. A thunderstorm sent them all upon their knees in mid-March. It was the opinion that th7under was the voice of God, announcing the day of judgment. Numbers expected the earth to open, and give up its dead at the sound. Every meteor in the sky seen at Jerusalem brought the whole Christian population into the streets to weep and pray… Fanatic preachers kept up the flame of terror. Every shooting star furnished occasion for a sermon, in which the sublimity of the approaching judgment was the principle topic.” (257,258) Charles Ryrie: “it is granted by dispensationalists that as a system of theology dispensationalism is recent in origin.” (Dispensationalism Today, p. 67.) Charles R. Taylor “What you are starting to read probably is my final issue of Bible Prophecy News, for Bible prophecy fulfillments indicate that Jesus Christ our Lord will most likely return for us at the rapture of the Church before the Fall 1992 issue can be printed.” “The Golden Age”: “Intravenous drug use would be common during the Millennium and that this would be used by The Christ (the 144,000 and Jesus) to help mankind become perfect, free of all diseases” (March 17, 1920, p. 808) A letter to Christian Life: “The item referring to a computer “Beast,” a confederacy of Common Market nations. And a laser tattooing for a world-wide numbering system is based on fictional portrayals of end time events, drawing from my novel, Behold a Pale Horse, and a screenplay I wrote for the David Wilkerson film, The Rapture. For more than three years I have heard my story ideas circulated as fact. Perhaps, in light of what’s happening in the world today, items such as the one printed seem quite plausible. However, for the moment, they are fiction. “ (Quoted in G.R. Fischer, The Quarterly Journal, July-Sept 1989, 8.)
“Preterism has been making strides over the last two years. Preterists believe that biblical prophecies were fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 and a spiritual coming of Christ at that time. As we approached the year 2000, preterism was taking a back seat to premillennialism. In the driver’s seat were premillennial views that the end times could be near. However, after the hype of Y2K died down, preterism began to make gains. Enough so that Grant Jeffrey devoted a significant portion of his book, “Triumphant Return,” to defending premillennialim; Dr. Larry Spargimino wrote “The Anti-Prophets: The Challenge of Preterism”; and popular author Thomas Ice produced a series of articles for “The Midnight Call” magazine on the preterist/premillennilist debate.” more…

7/2008: IsraelENews: Why aren`t evangelicals denouncing Pastor John Hagee? “Hagee’s also a fervent supporter of the State of Israel against its Muslim neighbours. But he doesn’t bother to tell Jews that Christians of his ilk expect all Jews to convert to Christianity. If they don’t, such end-times Christians believe Jews will suffer eternal damnation when Jesus returns in the Last Judgment. “

4/2008: Christian Zionist Leader Hagee in Unprecedented Appearance at Reform Temple “When Rabbi Woznica asked the Reverend if he was a literalist, he said that he was and that he did believe that the world was really created in six days and that Noah’s ark was real. On the other hand, in response to a follow-up question from Rabbi Woznica, Reverend Hagee said that he does not believe a Sabbath-breaker ought to be stoned to death, referring to Biblical laws as ‘word pictures’ that indicate ‘principles.’’
-
3/2008: John McCain accepts endorsement of Hagee “John McCain is so anxious to get the support of the Theopublicans that he is jumping into bed with some pretty loony individuals. This short report on his endorsement from televangelist John Hagee is one example. Hagee is a proponent of the dulusional theory of “dispensationalism” which was invented in England by John Darby in the 1800s. Darby brought his theology to America where a large percentage of fundamentalists embraced it with enthusiasm. One result of dispensationalism is that American fundamentalists are more Zionist than the Zionists themselves — as you will see here.”
-
1/2008: Bill Berkowitz – Christian Zionists Feel Betrayed by Bush’s Road Map “Their anger revolves around both the future status of Jerusalem and whether a peace agreement lessens the chances for a preemptive strike against Iran. While Bush appeared to reassure Christian Zionists that Iran was “the world’s leading state-sponsor of terror”, the issue of Jerusalem remained disconcerting. Rosenberg appears confident that even if a peace deal is struck, it will not necessarily be contradictory to Biblical prophesy: “While…Matthew 24 and Luke 21 indicate that there will be wars, rumors of wars and revolutions in the Middle East in the last days, Ezekiel 38 also indicates that for a season at least the Jews will be living ‘securely’ in the land prior to the apocalyptic War of Gog & Magog (the Russian-Iranian alliance to destroy Israel).”

2007: Joshua Mitnick – Evangelicals’ New Reach In Jewish Agency Criticized “Rabbi Eckstein.. said that until now Jewish groups have been happy to accept IFGC funding and now the group is receiving the recognition it deserves. “It feels like we’re losing control,” said Rabbi Haim Dov Beliak, a co-founder of the Web site Jews on First, which criticizes the growing influence of the Christian right and Christian Zionist groups in America. “Those who will be in charge of the Zionist enterprise will not be Jews, but the senior partners with the most money,”
-
2006: Paul Findley – Control of US Policies by the Israeli Lobby “The two groups make strange bedfellows. Judaic doctrine makes no mention of Jesus Christ. Christian Zionists, in a radical interpretation of the Bible’s Book of Revelations, believe that on the Second Coming of Christ, all people of the Judaic faith will instantly be destroyed or converted to Christianity. They are bound tightly together by an immediate interest– survival of a strong, expanding Israel as an essential precondition for the arrival on earth of their separate messiahs.”

2006: Among Evangelicals, Kinship with Jews “Since that day five years ago, according to Eckstein, the Tabernacle has sent more than $175,000 to the fellowship, which has a donor base of 400,000 Christians and has contributed more than $100 million to Israeli causes. “

Sproul , Ph.D., President, Ligonier Ministries, Orlando, FL | Gary DeMar , M.Div., American Vision, Powder Springs, GA “At the heart of the political commitments in question are two fatally flawed propositions. First, some are teaching that God’s alleged favor toward Israel today is based upon ethnic descent rather than upon the grace of Christ alone, as proclaimed in the Gospel. Second, others are teaching that the Bible’s promises concerning the land are fulfilled in a special political region or “Holy Land,” perpetually set apart by God for one ethnic group alone. “

2005: Letters to the Editor on “The Gods Must Be Crazy” “After reading this excellent article, now I understand. And I’m scared to death. These radical evangelical Christians actually believe that the faster we destroy the earth and our environment, the faster the “second coming of Christ” will happen. I no longer believe in a “second coming” (although I do believe in God and an afterlife, just not in the black-and-white way that fundamentalists view it). But with 50 million Americans, according to this article, and 231 U.S. senators and representatives believing in this crazy “End Times” theology, all working to hasten the end of the earth, they just might pull the rest of us along with them down the path of environmental destruction and the end of the ability of the earth to sustain life.”

Most of the 3,000 in attendance were evangelicals, including Ralph Reed of the Christian Coalition, Kay Arthur of Precept Ministries, Jane Hanson of Women’s Aglow, and Brandt Gustavson of the National Religious Broadcasters. Zionism vs. The Bible – Thomas Williamson ” The duty of Christian churches today is to seek the well-being of Jews according to the flesh, Romans 9:3. Online Journal – The Iron Fist of Jesus – “Fundamentalist Christians, adherents to a nauseating perversion of Christianity (conjured from their twisted imaginations and their distorted interpretations of the Bible) wield a significant amount of power in the United States, socially and politically. In short, Fundamentalist Christians are the people whom the real Jesus would have hammered with his Iron Fist, if he had had one, and if he had been inclined to use it. Fortunately for them, Warrior Jesus is simply a myth the Christo-Fascist masters use to keep their minions in line. Unfortunately for the rest of us, America’s religious extremists are as dangerous as those in the Middle East and around the globe. Just in case there is an Iron Fisted Jesus and an impending Rapture, I am signing off by wishing you a Merry Christmas!”

Christian Zionism and the Palestinian State “America is slowly realizing that it is the American Zionists – Christians and Jewish – that actually prefer Israel to America. They conspired to conscript the U.S. government on behalf of a foreign power. They lied, deceived and planned to take America into a spiral war – the Iraqi invasion being the first of that long list of yet-to-take dirty wars – to apparently secure and strengthen the rogue state of Israel.”
-
Christian Zionism: Terror in Jesus’ Name – “Christian Zionism is a call for global war. The belief that Christianity is the sole truth, that all other faiths are ‘Satanic’ or ‘false’, that the Jews must all gather in Palestine to fulfil so-called Biblical prophecies, and that a grand global war will soon erupt leading to the massacre of hundreds of millions and heralding the ‘second coming’ of Jesus, who will establish his Christian kingdom extending till the four corners of the world, clearly indicate the hate-driven, global expansionist project of Christian Zionism. “

Mixing Prophecy and Politics in the Holy Land – Jane Lampman for CSM “Ray Sanders and his wife, Sharon, grew up on farms in the American Midwest, but Israel has long been their home. Their journey began in the 1970s, when they read Hal Lindsey’s apocalyptic bestseller, “The Late Great Planet Earth,” which laid out a scenario for the end of the world according to a literal interpretation of Bible prophecies. “That awakened our understanding to Israel and its prophetic role in the Last Days,” Mr. Sanders explains in his spacious Jerusalem office. “That was a real paradigm shift in our lives.” — (Premillennial Dispensationalism) divides history into eras (dispensations) based on a complex interpretation of biblical texts in books such as Daniel, Ezekiel, and Revelation. Most other Christian groups view these prophecies as predictions fulfilled long ago or as visions with a purely symbolic or spiritual meaning. But premillennialists insist they will occur on earth in the future.”

Mal Couch – Introductory Thoughts on Allegorical Interpretation and the Book of Revelation (1997) “There are many comings of Christ. Christ came in the flesh as a mediatorial Presence. Ed Hindson message: Can we still believe in the Rapture? “After giving examples from Scripture that explain the rapture and Christ’s triumphal return, Hindson gave students 10 reasons for why Liberty is committed to a pre-tribulation rapture. Wilkinson predicts imminent catastrophe; 'Earth-shattering calamity about to happen'... (2009) David Wilkerson, author of “The Cross and the Switchblade,” a book about his ministry to troubled New York street kids that was later made into a movie starring Pat Boone, tells readers of his blog this weekend that he is “compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message” about his prediction. “An earth-shattering calamity is about to happen,” he writes. “It is going to be so frightening, we are all going to tremble – even the godliest among us.” Wilkerson’s vision is of fires raging through New York City. “It will engulf the whole megaplex, including areas of New Jersey and Connecticut. Major cities all across America will experience riots and blazing fires – such as we saw in Watts, Los Angeles, years ago,” he explains. “There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting – including Times Square, New York City. What we are experiencing now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God’s wrath. In Psalm 11 it is written, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Rev. Josiah Litch (Millerite) Christ Yet to Come: A Review of I.P. Warren’s Parousia (1880) “There is ” the end of the age ” which came at the destruction of Jerusalem — the termination of the Jewish economy ; and there is “the end of the age ” which is the harvest, when ” the Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend,” etc. — the termination of the Christian economy. It seems to us that these are so clearly distinguished and so distinctly separated, that it is utterly impossible to confound them. All our ordinances, all our commissions, all our endowments as the Church of Christ, are timed and terminated by the end of the age and the return of our Lord. If the end of the age has come, and if Christ’s advent has really taken place, then these commissions have run out, and these endowments are outlawed.”
-
James Ventilato – Christ’s Soon Coming and the Words That Describe It (2004) “To all of this might be added another set of texts which, when viewed through Preterist lenses, actually provides a spread of upwards of 40 years prior to 70AD; i.e., those texts connected with the gospel of the kingdom which our Lord preached during His earthly ministry (as did His disciples, and as did His forerunner, John the Baptist), heralding, “Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand” (cf. Matt. 3:2; 4:17; 10:7; Mark 1:14-15; Luke 10:9,11). When this is viewed through Preterist lenses (for they reject the truth of a “kingdom offer” to Israel conveyed in this gospel of the kingdom), we have the preaching of the kingdom as “at hand” (or “near”) over 40 years prior to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD, in which Preterists claim that the Son of Man came on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory and established that very kingdom (in a mysticalized manner, of course).”

George Duffield: Millenarianism Defended: Reply to Prof. Stuart’s “Strictures on the Rev. G. Duffield’s Recent Work on the Second Coming of Christ” (1843 PDF) “Now, after all this, what shall we think of those who will tell us UNFULFILLED PROPHECY needs not to be studied—is of no use, but dangerous–— till the events have fulfilled them ? Assuredly such instructors deserve reproof, and to be sent back to their Bibles, themselves to study, more carefully, lest they should mislead others. They have reason to fear that the charge, and censure of the Saviour, for hypocrisy may be applicable ;” and in proof of this statement, I have shown that it was the very circumstances of the Pharisees’ neglecting prophecy, on which the Saviour founded his charge of hypocrisy against them.”
