“The fact is that in the New Testament zoe, or more fully zoe aionios, is an eschatological conception; it is one of the characteristic marks of the Age to Come, like glory, light, etc. In the contemporary rabbinic conception, the Age to Come (cf. Mark 10.30, ho erchomenos aion; Heb. 6.5, ho mellon aion), as distinct from this age (ho nun aion or ho aion hou-tos), was to be characterized by zoe, that is, zoe aionios, the life of the (coming) aion. “… many careful students of premillennial truth have come to the conclusion that the opinion that Israel’s resurrection occurred at the time of the rapture was a hasty one and without proper Scriptural foundation. “The angel seems here to mark a transition from the commencement of the preaching of the gospel, to the final day of the resurrection, without sufficient occasion for it. For why does he pass over the intermediate time during which many events might be the subject of prophecy? He unites these two subjects very fitly and properly, connecting the salvation of the Church with the final resurrection and with the second coming of Christ. Wheresoever we may look around us, we never meet with any source of salvation on earth. The angel announces the salvation of all the elect.”  (Commentary)

The passage at Daniel 12:2 is evidently referring to a figurative not a literal resurrection. The context indicating so.

Donald is influenced by the orthodox teachings of souls and all saved going to heaven. He needs to understand that the marriage guests were all invited and in place by 70 CE. No one else is going to be part of the bride regardless of how hard we hope. The rest of the dead come to life and live on earth. I would love to see more effort put into this study of God’s purpose for the earth. It would resolve the contradictions in Preterist interpretations. Those of Daniel’s people whose names are in the book are, I believe, New Testament Jewish saints. 12:2 speaks of all the O.T. Jews, good and bad, raised up at the same time. The N.T. saints rule O.T. Jews in heaven at this time. David, who is raised up at this time also, rules from his throne in heaven, with Christ and His disciples.

This is the most appropriate time for that to happen. Christ promised His 12 Apostles that they would rule the 12 tribes of Israel from their own thrones. I don’t know that the Bible indicates it would be forever. If not, they’ve already had 2000 years, and that’s adequte. I suspect that all this is happening in the New Jerusalem. Could be wrong, though.

    This verse is referring to the resurrection at the time of Jesus’s return to earth. I don’t understand that the verse says “Many shall awake”- why not “all who sleep shall awake? Does this mean that not all will awake ? Will only some be resurrected?
