INTRODUCTION

Literature from all theological perspectives are offered so that the reader may better discern to where the Spirit is drawing on any given subject.  Some documents may seem pure curiosities, but each work listed below is an important part of the gestalt.  Works are dated by first publication in each language represented.  Later editions are dated according to the year of their publication if the earliest date is not known.

This archive respects copyrights and abides by the US Code, with particular attention to Section 108(h), which allows unfettered distribution of more recent works for non-monetary library archives.  Additional works are included if they are out of print, or if the author has made them public elsewhere.   If you have any materials that you think would be valuable to the learning community, or have a concern about a particular copyright, please contact me at todd@preteristarchive.com.

LATEST 2019 UPDATES (Regrettably many original archived PDFs have not been saved)

4/19/19:

  • 1836: Hug-Stuart, Introduction to the New Testament, with Notes by Moses Stuart (pdf)  Those who are acquainted with the merits of Hug’s Introduction to the New Testament, will not think it strange that it should be deemed worthy of an English dress. It has long been in high repute in Germany, and among German scholars in other countries.  As an index to the estimate put upon it in Germany, we may take the declaration of Gesenius (Bibl. Essays Art. I.) made with direct reference to this work : “He [Hug] excels all his predecessors in deep and fundamental investigations.”
  • 1837: Hug-Penn, Annotations, with Hug on Vaticani (pdf) – Reprint of De Antiquitate Codicis Vaticani Commentatio
  • 2014: Ulrich Lehner, Apocalypse, Enlightenment, an the Beginning of Salvation History (pdf)  – Only two historical events can be connected to the book of Revelation, argues Hug. Apart from the victory of Christianity, they are the destruction of the Jewish temple and the demise of Rome. For Hug, the book is a mere work of consolation, written in the time of the Emperor Domitian, and contains no references to future events.

4/17/19:

  • 2009: Phillip G. Kayser, Critica Preterismo Completo (Portuguese)
  • 2015: Cesar Francisco Raymundo, Commentario Preterista sobre o Apocalipse (Portuguese) – It is with satisfaction that we present the first and most complete Preterist Commentary on the Apocalypse ever before published in Brazil. Never before in the history of the country did we have a complete commentary on the Apocalypse from the preterist point of view. In it all the 404 verses of the Apocalypse are commented on. This commentary is composed of Introduction, Internal and External Evidence on the date of the Apocalypse, in addition to which is thoroughly commented, exegetically, historically and grammatically each chapter of the Apocalypse. There are more than 500 pages with spiritually enriching content.
  • 2018: Brian L. Martin, Fulfilled Eschatology: A Brief Introduction
  • 2018: Tim Osterholm, Who’s Who in Bible Prophecy

4/11/19:

  • 1835: Seiler-Heringa, Biblical Hermeneutics, or, The Art of Scripture Interpretation – Translated from German and Dutch – This is the only prophecy from chapter xii. to the end of the book.  The predictions of all the prophets is thus fulfilled.
  • 1835: Hug-Seiler, Biblical Hermeneutics: On the Drama of the Apocalypse – Tremendous scholarship from Professor Johann Leonhard von Hug, translated from the German by William Wright of Dublin. – Josephus the Jew likewise compared Jerusalem to Sodom at the same epoch. – Bel. Jud. v. 10.
  • 1839: Thomas Hartwell Horne, A Manual of Biblical Bibliography – After Eichhorn, Grotius, Hug, and other modern continental critics, Dr. Heinrichs considers the Apocalypse as a sacred poem, representing in a dramatic form (the scenery of which is chiefly borrowed from the antient prophets,) the final triumph of Christianity over Judaism and Paganism ; the three cities of Sodom, Babylon, and Jerusalem, – of the matron, the harlot, and the bride – being intended to represent those three systems.
  • 1853: Samuel Taylor ColeridgeNotes on English Divines, V1 | V2 – V1, 137: That the poetic – and I see no reason for doubting the real – date of the Apocalypse is under Vespasian, is so evidently implied in the five kings preceding that it seems to me quite lawless to deny it.
